Dual Credit Opportunities

The Construction Trades Program is pleased to partner with Ivy Tech Community College to offer college credit why simultaneously receiving high school credit.  
 

In most instances Dual Credit is free of charge.  You should contact the Guidance Counsel our or the Instructor for further information concerning this.​  The following Dual Credit opportunities are offered in Construction Trades.  We offer new courses often so check back for an update.

BCTI 100

Intro to Construction Technology

 

This course covers the NCCER Core Curriculum and is a prerequisite to most other construction
courses. Its modules cover topics such as basic safety, communication skills, and introduction to
construction drawings; all basic skills needed to continue education in the construction program.
The NCCER Core Curriculum certificate and wallet card will also be awarded upon successful completion of this course.

Introduction to Carpentry (Part 1)

 

This course covers the first half of NCCER Carpentry Level 1. Its modules cover topics such as
building materials, fasteners, adhesives, hand and power tools, introduction to construction
drawings, specifications, layout, and floor systems. The NCCER Carpentry Level 1 certificate
and wallet card will not be awarded until the student successfully completes both this course and BCTI 102.

Introduction to Carpentry (Part 2)

 

This course covers the second half of NCCER Carpentry Level 1. Its modules cover topics such as wall systems, ceiling joist and roof framing, basic stair layout, and introduction to building envelope systems. The NCCER Carpentry Level 1 certificate and wallet card will also be awarded upon successful completion of this course.

Construction and Blueprint Reading

 

Provides instruction and practice in the use of working drawings and applications from the print to the work. Includes relationship of views and details, interpretation of dimension, transposing scale, tolerance, electrical symbols, sections, materials list, architectural plans, room schedules and plot plans.

Carpentry, Framing, and Finish I

 

This course covers the first half of NCCER Carpentry Framing and Finishing Level 2. Its modules
cover topics such as commercial drawings, roofing applications, thermal and moisture protection,
exterior finishing, and cold-formed steel framing. The NCCER Carpentry Framing and Finishing Level
2 certificate and wallet card will not be awarded until the student successfully completes both this
course and BCTI 104.

Service and Procedures

 

The fundamentals of refrigeration operation are discussed, including heat transfer, types of heat, and pressure temperature relationships. Also covered are refrigerant, identification, system recovery, leak testing, evacuation, and charging. Other topics include copper tubing, soft solder, and brazing. Students will also learn proper safety procedures, all trade -related tools, and customer relations with employability skills.

Carpentry, Framing, and Finish II

 

This course covers the second half of NCCER Carpentry Framing and Finishing Level 2. Its modules
cover topics such as drywall installation and finishing, doors and door hardware, suspended ceilings,
window, door, floor, and ceiling trim, and cabinet installation. The NCCER Carpentry Framing and
Finishing Level 2 certificate and wallet card will also be awarded upon successful completion of this
course.
